DO YOU SUFFER WITH INSOMNIA AND FIBROMYALGIA?
One of the biggest symptoms Fibromyalgia sufferers deal with is INSOMNIA. Either they can’t fall asleep or they wake up in the middle of night after only a few hours of sleep never to get back to sleep again. Or they suffer with a combination of both. Almost every fibromyalgia patient sufferers with insomnia.
The typical cause for insomnia is abnormal function of the adrenal glands and an over firing part of the brain known as the mesencephalon. The adrenal glands produce the Stress hormone CORTISOL. If your adrenal glands are burned out or producing to much cortisol it can wreak havoc on your circadian rhythms or rest sleep cycles. The mesencephalon or upper brain stem when over firing can cause increased body pain perception as well as an increase in the activity reticular activating system. This brain system when over firing can cause you to stay awake when your body should be sleeping.
Sleep is essential to the recovery and health of your body and if you do not improve your ability to sleep you will never overcome the painful symptoms of Fibromyalgia. In this quick fix drug minded society it si typical that people with fibromyalgia and Insomnia just take sleeping medications (among a myriad of other medications). Sleeping pills carry huge side effects and never address the true cause of a persons insomnia: which is abnormally functioning adrenal glands and poor brain function causing an over firing upper brain stem.
If you are taking sleeping pills you need to know they may be shortening your life span and increasing your chance of developing cancer according to this recent study…
A study involving over 34,000 patients, published by the British Medical Journal on February 2012, found that long-term use (more than 2 doses per week) of prescription sleeping aids such as Ambien and Restoril, resulted in a 5.3 fold increase in death risk, and a 35% increased risk of cancer. Those given less than 2 doses per month were more than 3.5 times more likely to die during the study1.
